The early church was growing rapidly, and they were happy to share with each other all they had (see Acts 4:32-37). In those days, widows (women living alone) were particularly poor. Their society was based on men working, owning land, and providing for their wives and children. Women who had no men to support them were often poor and needed a lot of help. So the early church took care of the widows, and it seems that they had already made plans to ensure that the widows were fed every day.

The problem was that there was a division among the congregation. Some Jews followed Greek customs and traditions, some followed strict Jewish customs. Unfortunately, groups following strict Jewish customs got more food than those following Greek customs. It was not fair for a widow from Greece to send food.
An early church leader, his twelve disciples felt overwhelmed by all this and distracted from their primary purpose: prayer and preaching. So they decided to appoint his seven men to be in charge of daily food rations. Some of them had a Jewish background and some had a Greek background, just to be fair. This allowed the church to care for everyone but still concentrate on preaching and teaching the Word. and increased to” (Acts 6:7).

Some of the Jews in the area began to hear about his teachings and his miraculous signs and harassed him by spreading falsehoods about him. They eventually arrested him and brought him to the Jewish Council (called the Sanhedrin – the same group of people who sentenced Jesus to death and persecuted Peter and John) for questioning. .
