Coloring Pages Scalex Line Pattern – Imagine standing at the intersection of visual arts, mathematics and computer programming. What do you want to see? The foundation of infinite possibilities? This was the inspiration for Stuart Hungerford.
During the day, Stuart works on computers, but at night, he turns this knowledge into modeling. Geometric patterns, minimalism, hunger for color.

“The universe of possible geometric models is huge, so I usually use software components to create random sets of models. Most of them are too many or boring to use, but there are usually good or interesting examples scattered here and there.” Depending on the car certainly means that not all are good though, and it is estimated to have sifted through around 6,500 random models produced to choose 200 or so that have been presented on the website.
Iterar — Nina Hagen
“I can use a virtual assistant that can distinguish between interesting or interesting patterns and boring or dirty randomness. As far as I know such a tool does not exist, although I suspect researchers in AI and machine learning are working on it somewhere. .
Inspiration comes from many sources, and is especially appreciated by pattern designers and ornaments at the end of the 19th century, especially Lewis F. Day, Christopher Dresser and Owen Jones. Of course, the Op Art movement of the 1960s played a big role, as well as the work of more recent researchers at the intersection of art, computing and mathematics; in particular Andrew Glassner and Craig Kaplan – key figures in the development of modern computer graphics.
Based in Canberra, he has the advantage of having access to good libraries and resources, but says that “really, my creative space is anywhere I can put my laptop, monitor and notebook!”

Stuart admits that despite enjoying the color and fabric, they are not forte; So they offer their models freely under a Creative Commons license for other designers to use and adapt. He explained, “I don’t see myself as a “real” model designer, but more of a model explorer or curator who uses mathematical ideas and software components to explore interesting models and generations.”
“I have benefited for many years from the publication of mathematical and computational research and open source software, and in this spirit I publish a geometric model that has been created for designers to take and use, adapt or combine freely.”

An admired computer researcher once gave this favorite piece of advice. “They say you don’t know a problem until you try the program. They’re right.”

Stuart is grateful to the artists and designers at the ANU School of Art and Megalo Print Studio and Gallery for sharing their work and advice with him, especially Erica Seccombe and Alison Munro.
If you really like color and fabric and would like to collaborate on a specific project with Stuart, I’m sure he’d love to hear from you too!
